I don’t talk a lot about the subject of leadership, but today I want to give you a few things to think about on how I feel about leading.
I strongly believe it has less to do with talking and more to do with taking action. Anyone can stand on a pedestal and shout orders, but the true leader is down in the field and is the hardest worker on the team. I call this leading from the front.
When people on the team see problems, the leader sees opportunities. Ask yourself if you are a person who focuses on problems or who becomes the problem solver. We all know what the leader does.
Leading is all about an obsession on the fundamentals and taking massive action towards the goal or mission at hand.
We have all heard the bigger the dream, the more important the team and I am a firm believer in this principle. As the leader, it is so important to teach by doing and not by saying. People tend to forget 92% of everything they have been told within three days. On the other hand, they tend to remember 92% of the things they do. It is the job of the leader first to be the one to do what needs to be done and then inspect and help others until they can do it by themselves.
One of my mentors asks the question, Will you leave the earth a better place because you were there? Let’s focus on this question this way, In every instance, do you leave every place or situation better than it was before you got there? Wow, this is something I have failed at often, but I work on it constantly.
